Qatar's Cabinet strongly condemned Iranian attacks on Gulf shipping this week. Ministers met in Doha on July 8 under Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani. The session covered security threats, new laws, and social support programs.
Cabinet Condemns Tanker Attacks Near Hormuz
Minister of Justice Ibrahim bin Ali Al Mohannadi read the Cabinet's statement after the meeting. He confirmed Qatar renews its condemnation of the attack on the tanker Al Rekayyat. The vessel was targeted while passing near the Strait of Hormuz.
The government called the attack a serious violation of maritime safety. It said the incident threatens global energy security and regional stability. Qatar also called it a clear breach of international law.
The Cabinet demanded Iran stop these dangerous actions immediately. It confirmed Qatar reserves the right to protect its interests under international law.
Ministers also condemned the attack on a Saudi oil tanker in the same waters. They called it a dangerous escalation that threatens regional peace. The Cabinet further denounced repeated Iranian attacks on Bahrain and Kuwait. It described these as clear violations of both nations' sovereignty.
Shura Council Wraps Up Productive Legislative Term
The Cabinet praised strong cooperation between the government and the Shura Council. The council just closed its first session of its second legislative term. This marked the body's 54th annual session.
Officials linked this cooperation to Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani's vision. The goal is to advance laws that support Qatar's economic and social growth. The session helped push forward Qatar National Vision 2030.
New Traffic Law Aims to Boost Road Safety
The Shura Council approved a new traffic bill during the session. The Ministry of Interior drafted the law to improve road safety nationwide. It accounts for Qatar's growing infrastructure and new vehicle technology.
Updated Property Law Replaces 1987 Legislation
Lawmakers also approved a new state property law from the Ministry of Municipality. This law replaces the older Law No. 10 of 1987. It creates one unified system to manage public and private state property.
The law aims to protect public funds and stop illegal land use. It also links property records to Qatar's modern land registration system. Officials say it supports Qatar's Third National Development Strategy through 2030.
Fuel Station Oversight Law Gets Green Light
The council approved a separate law regulating fuel station oversight. QatarEnergy prepared the bill with the Permanent Committee for Fuel Stations. The law strengthens safety rules and defines duties for station operators.
Civil Court Procedures Get a Digital Update
Ministers approved changes to the 1990 Civil and Commercial Procedures Law. The Supreme Judiciary Council led this reform effort. The changes aim to speed up court cases while protecting fair trial rights.
The updates also expand electronic litigation across Qatari courts. New case management offices will now prepare cases before trial begins.
Other Key Approvals From the Meeting
The Cabinet approved several additional measures during the session:
- Updated rules for Qatar's National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking
- New training standards at the Legal and Judicial Studies Center
- Educational vouchers for Qatari citizens with disabilities in nurseries
The disability voucher program expands early access to education and rehabilitation. It aims to reduce costs for families and support inclusive schooling.
Qatar Strengthens Global Diplomatic Ties
The Cabinet approved a training agreement between Qatar's Diplomatic Institute and Mauritania's Diplomatic Academy. It also approved a letter of intent with Uruguay on mediation cooperation.
Cabinet Reviews Key Annual Reports
Ministers reviewed several reports before closing the meeting. These included updates from the National Human Rights Committee and the General Retirement and Social Insurance Authority.
